The HPC are a regulator who were set up to protect the public. To do this, they keep a register of health professionals who meet standards for training, professional skills, behaviour and health.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council exists to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the public. Their remit is set out in the The Nursing and Midwifery Order 2001. The work of the NMC is governed by this and other associated legislation.
